South Florida Motorcycle Expo 2026

A motorcycle expo is coming through South Florida in 2026, and thousands of riders across Broward County, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach are already planning the ride. Big custom builds, factory booths, gear vendors, live demos — it is the kind of weekend that fills a parking field with bikes.

It is also the kind of weekend that keeps a mobile motorcycle locksmith busy. Put several thousand riders in one unfamiliar lot, add heat, crowds, gear changes and a long day on your feet, and keys go missing. Every year, at every large rally, somebody ends up standing beside their bike at closing time with no way to start it.

Here is what to have sorted before you ride out, so the only thing you are thinking about at the expo is the bikes.

1. Get a spare key programmed before the event, not after

This is the single most useful thing on this list, and the one riders skip. If you own one key and that key disappears at the expo, your day ends with a tow truck. If you own two, it ends with you riding home.

A spare is cheap insurance compared with an all-keys-lost job. On a modern motorcycle with a transponder, smart fob or immobiliser — Harley-Davidson, BMW Motorrad, Ducati, Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki, Indian, Triumph — originating a key from scratch takes longer and costs more than simply adding a second key while you still have a working one. The programming is also far simpler when an existing key is present.

Take a photo of the key code if your bike came with a key tag, and store the spare somewhere other than the bike. A spare locked inside the saddlebag it is meant to open has helped nobody.

2. Know your saddlebag and tour pack locks actually work

Expo day is not the moment to discover that the left saddlebag lock stopped turning three months ago. Before you load up, open and close every lock on the bike: ignition, fuel cap, seat, both bags, tour pack, fairing pockets. If one of them is stiff, sticky or turns without latching, deal with it beforehand. A lock that is merely stiff is a straightforward rebuild. A lock that has fully seized with your gear inside it, in a field, at 5pm, is a different problem.

3. Photograph your VIN and registration

Any legitimate locksmith will ask you to prove the bike is yours before cutting or programming a key. That is not bureaucracy, it is the law and it is what keeps your motorcycle from being stolen by somebody who reads your plate. Keep a photo of your registration and your VIN on your phone, and keep it somewhere you can reach without needing the bike.

If you cannot prove ownership on the spot, nobody reputable will help you, and the one person who offers to is not somebody you want near your motorcycle.

4. Check the battery before you load the trailer

Key programming needs stable voltage. So does starting your bike in a packed lot after the electronics have been waking up all day. A battery that is marginal in your garage in the morning is a dead battery in the afternoon. If your bike has been sitting between rides, put it on a tender for a night beforehand.

5. Save a locksmith number that actually covers motorcycles

Most locksmiths who advertise 24/7 emergency service work on cars and houses. Motorcycles, scooters and personal watercraft use different keyways, different transponder systems and different programming tools, and the generalist who arrives will usually take one look and leave. If you ride to the expo, save a number for somebody who does this specific work before you need it.
